Pictured is the 4 shells size. This size is best for most uses, queen, twin and throw sizes can be achieved with this smaller size. Longer sizes can be used to make table runners, an extra long blanket, or other things. You can find the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry.

A worsted weight yarn by Ice yarn was used for this project. It is called Wool Worsted and is 30% wool and 70% acrylic. The gray really makes the stitches pop! They have lots of colors to choose from but I find the one color really helps the German Shells stitch or Virus stitch stand out.
You can use other weights of yarn to make this blanket. Because of the repeats, the blanket can just be worked until you’ve reached the desired size.
To change colors in this blanket, it is best to change on the loopy rounds. Or every 4 rounds. This way the shells can make the eye focus on them better.
